Nellie the elephant pack her trunk and said goodbye to the circus...

In these past months a lot of babies are born among our friends.
As a welcome gift, I sewed some little elephants ;)
It's a pattern found on a book named "One-yard wonders", the Elodie the Elephant, designed by Sarah Faix. It's really an easy pattern and the result is nice and cuddly.
I used some gingham cotton fabric and a France Duval-Stalla fabrics (bought on Supercut.it). The filling is a 100% natural wool (bought here).
Every elephant came with its little bag. Here are some photos of the last two :)

Elephant: lilac gingham fabric and France Duval-Stalla blue stars popeline.
Bag: fabric with deer from the local market

Bag: pink cotton and France Duval-Stalla silver dragonflies batista.

And everytime I'm sewing an elephant, in my mind I'm singing Nellie the elephant, sang by the Toy Dolls (it's really crazy, my brother used to dance on it with F. when he was two year old, laughing 'till tears!).
Cheers ;)

Back to school!

I'm back.

Seven months without writing a word... it was a really hard and full period, with no time to take photos of my projects and to write something, but in the meanwhile I sewed some dresses for my little C., something for me and some special projects.

But today F. was back to school.
So I want to restart this blog with something I made for him.
Last year was his first year at the nursery, and he needed a backpack to bring his towel, his bib and some clothes.

I wanted to do something very special, something that will leave to him a beautiful memory of this time, like my mother did with me (I still have my little bag with two cats playing with water drops and my named sewed in red).
And then I found the right pattern!

This is another super work from this amazing book.
Always made with ikea Fabric, this for the exterior and this for the interior.
With a small red pocket inside, to keep small candy or an hankie.

I'm quite happy about the result, but I think that next time I will try some little changes, as for examples using a different fabric for the straps (I used a black linen fabric, because I was in a hurry as I sewed the backpack just the day before, but it's too slippery) and I will try to find a way to keep the back stright in place.
But F... he was enthusiastic and really proud of his backpack! And he is still really happy! :)

F. this morning ready for school :)

Little doll

In the last three days I worked on a present for a little friend of F.
Two weeks ago she invited us at her birthday party, and I started to think at what kind of gift we could make her.
I don't like buy a toy just for, and I'm really not a fan about the "pink world" for little girls.
Usually we give books, but this time we don't know she and her family so much and we decide to not buy another Peppa Pig's book. We wanted to make something by ourselves.

I had a patter taken here, but make the doll's hair slightly different (I felt in love with these!).
And this is the result.

I sewed a doubleface dress with a beautiful japanese cotton fabric with small daisies paired with a red plain one.

For the jacket I used a light blue linen fabric, to make a contrast withe the red dress.
The doll's face is in Waldorf style.
And finally F. has give her a name: Emma.
Now we have only to pack her and make a birthday card!

...I think that with her red button in the hair she is simply cute!

The first!

So.
Here I am, with a new start.
I promised myself that this year I would have found time for working at some projects.
I don't know if I can do it and how much time I can dedicate to this blog's project, but I know that this was the right moment to start.

In this period I'm experimenting a lot with my sewing machine. This love for sewing is something that is growing slowly but intensly. My granmother was a seamstress, but I didn't care much about sewing until I got pregnant for the first time and, contemporarly, I found a super easy and cheap sewing machine and I bought it!
I started to sew little toys for my son, after I try to sew something for me. I also did a sewing classe for beginners to improve a little bit my skills. Then my job has stopped for a while my sewing activity.
But, you know, life is crazy and unpredictable.
My little passion for sewing was quietly sleeping and I got pregnant for the second time! And now it's exploding!

I have a lot of ideas in my mind, my to sew list is growing and everyday I discover an interesting blog or a new project on internet. Thanks to them, every time I learn a little more! I would like to recount here all these findings, as to write my little notebook of sewing.

And, of course, I would like to share my finished project.
Here is my last one, finished this night.
I was inspired by this great book!

But, instead of the Juggling balls, I made a series of little houses from this Ikea fabric for a baby boy (he's only four months!).

I hope he will enjoy it!

Ok. I think this is a good first post.
See you soon!
